The different types of business fibre broadband.

There are two different types of fibre broadband available to businesses across the UK. We'll help you to find the fibre broadband that's right for your business.
Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)

By far the most common form of fibre optic broadband is fibre to the cabinet—also known as FTTC. Fibre to the cabinet uses a combination of fibre optics and copper cabling.

With fibre to the cabinet, the connection from your local telephone exchange to your businesses nearest green street cabinet is fibre optic cable. This means that the majority of your connection to the internet is made of fibre.

From your local cabinet, the rest of the journey is made up from copper cable. This copper cable is shared between you and the businesses around you. The further you are from your local cabinet, the slower your speeds.

Fibre to the cabinet has been rolled out across the UK, and is currently available for up to 90% of businesses in the UK.

Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

The faster form of broadband connectivity is fibre to the premises, which uses a full fibre connection.

Fibre to the premises is very similar to FTTC, but instead of copper cable, it uses a fibre connection from your business to your local green street cabinet.

The upside of fibre to the premises is that your speeds aren't dependent on your distance from the local cabinet. However, the availability of FTTP is currently quite limited, with network provides looking to roll-out a fibre

Fibre to the premises is a less common form of broadband connectivity, but is being rolled out across the UK—especially in city centres.
