South West & Wales Event WiFi: Keeping 2026's Biggest Events Connected

This summer, our engineers were busy making sure events across the South West & Wales stayed connected, with reliable event WiFi scoped to fit each site's own demands. From a rural showground in Dorset to a paddleboarding World Cup on the Devon coast, and a multi-day festival further along the coast in Port Talbot, no two setups were the same, and that's exactly what South West event WiFi has to account for: every site brings its own infrastructure, timeline and connectivity challenges long before a single attendee, vendor or competitor connects a device.

Every Site Starts With the Same Question: What's Actually There?

Unlike an office installation, an event site usually has no existing infrastructure to build on. No cabling, no fixed power in the right places, sometimes no mobile signal worth relying on. Before any WiFi goes live, our engineers need to survey the site, work out where connectivity is genuinely needed (ticketing, bars, production, welfare, press), and design a network that can be built from scratch and torn down just as quickly once the event ends.

That was the reality at In It Together Festival in Port Talbot this May, where our team spent a full week on site. Multi-day festivals need connectivity that holds up not just for the public-facing side of the event, but for the operational side too: teams coordinating logistics, welfare and production across a large site, often with no second chance if something goes wrong on day one.

When Connectivity Is Safety-Critical: World Cup of Paddle Board, Torquay

Event setups run to a fixed schedule. The gates open on a set date whether conditions are ideal or not, and that's rarely within anyone's control.

At the World Cup of Paddle Board, hosted by Paddle UK in Torquay this June, our engineers installed the entire site's network during a summer heatwave, working through soaring temperatures to get everything live and tested ahead of competition. Heat affects more than just comfort; it affects equipment, cabling and the physical demands of an install that has to be completed in a tight window before the event begins.

Two networks needed to run side by side on site reliably. The first supported vendors, keeping trading and card payments running throughout the event. The second, and the one with zero margin for error, powered the water safety systems used to check competitors in and out of the water. When a network is being used to track who is safely back on land, 'mostly reliable' isn't good enough, and that distinction shaped every part of the install, from access point placement to how the two networks were segmented and prioritised.

Vendor Connectivity at Scale: Long-Term Events on the South West's Agricultural Show Circuit

Some of the most valuable projects aren't one-off installs; they're relationships built up over several years, and this summer also saw us return to three of the region's biggest agricultural shows: Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, Mid Devon Show, and Dorset County Show.

2026 marked our third year providing connectivity at the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show. Returning to the same rural showground each year means we already understand where the signal is weakest, what the power setup looks like, and how the day unfolds, so each install gets faster and more refined than the last.

At each of the three shows, our team provided WiFi to somewhere in the region of 400 to 500 vendors, almost all of whom depend on the network to take card payments. That scale changes the nature of the challenge entirely. It's no longer just about covering a site with signal; it's about a network that can handle hundreds of concurrent connections without dropping, in fields with no existing infrastructure, for the full duration of a busy show day. If the network falters, vendors can't take payment, and that's a direct hit to their takings, not just an inconvenience.

Building a Network Where There's No Signal at All: Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show

As this piece is being written, our engineers are on site setting up for the Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show, taking place this Saturday, 12th September. This is our fourth year providing WiFi for the show, and it brings a challenge of its own: hundreds of vendors on site, in a genuinely remote setting with no usable signal to build a network on.

Rather than working around that, our team installs satellite WiFi across the site, creating a network from scratch in a location where traditional broadband and mobile data simply aren't an option. It's a good example of how event WiFi has to adapt to the site rather than the other way round, and why the right solution for a coastal festival isn't necessarily the right solution for a show ground in the middle of nowhere.

The Common Thread

Different locations, different weather, different scales, and different stakes, but the same underlying discipline. Whether a network is protecting competitor safety in the water, keeping hundreds of vendors trading smoothly, or being built from satellite connectivity alone in a spot with no signal at all, it has to be planned properly, installed to a fixed deadline, and resilient enough to handle whatever the site and the conditions throw at it. That's what South West event WiFi comes down to in practice, whether it's a single-day show, a safety-critical system, or a week-long festival.
